Cocktail Scaling FAQ

Common questions about scaling cocktails and mixed drinks.

The scaling engine uses a regex pattern that detects integers (2 oz), decimals (0.75 oz), and fractions (1/2 oz, 3/4 oz) before common drink units. It multiplies the parsed value by your target servings and outputs clean, readable numbers.

The scaler focuses on liquid ingredients with standard units (oz, ml, dashes, barspoons). Garnishes like "1 Lemon Slice" or "1 Maraschino Cherry" are not scaled — you'll want to garnish each glass individually for the best presentation.

When you shake or stir a single cocktail with ice, some water naturally dilutes into the drink — about 15-20%. When scaling up to a pitcher without shaking, you lose that dilution. Adding 15-20% filtered water mimics that balance so your drink isn't too strong or syrupy.

Absolutely. Type or paste any recipe into the textarea as long as measurements use standard drink units (oz, ml, cl, dash, dashes, barspoon, part, parts, tsp, splash). The engine will detect and scale all matching measurements automatically.

You can scale up to 200 servings. The tool is designed for everything from doubling a recipe for a date night to batching cocktails for a party of 50+. Beyond 200 servings, consider converting to larger volume units (liters) manually.
